Malja to test with Sauber

Swede to make F1 test debut in Budapest

Gustav Malja will make his Formula 1 test debut with Sauber at the August young drivers test in Budapest, following the Hungarian Grand Prix at the Hungaroring on 28-30 July. The Swede, who enjoyed his first podium of the year in Monaco last weekend, will join the Swiss team for the test on 1-2 August, driving for one of the days.

“The prospect of driving a Formula 1 car is exceptionally thrilling, and a childhood dream come true,” noted Malja. “I can’t wait to experience that sensation; I’m sure it will be a very surreal moment. I will do everything in my power to make the most of the test day and learn as much as I possibly can. Wholehearted thanks to the Sauber F1 Team for giving me this fantastic opportunity.”

“It will be a great opportunity for Gustav to make another step in his racing career and to fulfil his childhood dream," announced Monisha Kaltenborn, team principal of the Sauber F1 Team. "Driving a Formula 1 car for the first time is always a special moment for race drivers – and so it is for Gustav. We have followed him throughout the past years, especially last year where he constantly made progress.”

Malja will join fellow Formula 2 racer Sean Gelael, who was previously announced as testing with Toro Rosso, following on from his debut test with the Italian squad following the Bahrain Grand Prix in April.
