Having secured the Formula Regional European Championship crown in 2023 and following on from a string of several junior titles going back to the 2020 season, Andrea Kimi Antonelli arrived in Formula 2 with PREMA Racing.

The Mercedes Junior Team driver was a regular points-scorer in the early stages of his rookie season but had to wait until Silverstone to stand on the top step, earning his maiden F2 victory in a torrential Sprint Race. He then took Feature Race victory in Budapest to add to his account.

The Italian then made his competitive F1 race weekend debut at his home event at Monza, taking part in Free Practice 1 ahead of the 2024 Italian Grand Prix with Mercedes.

The following day, it was announced that Antonelli would graduate to Formula 1 for 2025 and partner George Russell at the Mercedes-AMG F1 Team, replacing Lewis Hamilton.
