The details below apply to the 2021 campaign. The first deatils of a brand-new format for 2022 were announced at the end of September and can be found HERE.

1- What does the 2021 race weekend Format consist of?

A race weekend is made of:

  • 1 Free Practice (45 minutes)
  • 1 Qualifying Session (30 minutes)
  • 2 Sprint Races of 120 Kilometres or 45 minutes each (whichever comes first)
  • 1 Feature Race of 170 kilometres or 60 minutes (whichever comes first)

FRIDAY > Free Practice and Qualifying SATURDAY > Race 1 and Race 2 SUNDAY > Race 3

Note: For Monaco, FP and Q take place on the Thursday, Sprint Race 1 on Friday, and Sprint Race 2 & Feature Race take place on Saturday.

2- How are the 3 starting grids decided?

  • Sprint Race 1 Grid – Top 10 from Friday Qualifying classification is reversed to set grid for Saturday Sprint Race 1.

  • Sprint Race 2 Grid – Top 10 from Sprint Race 1 classification is reversed to set grid for Saturday Sprint Race 2.

  • Feature Race Grid – Qualifying classification from Friday sets grid for the Feature Race.

3- What is the points allocation in the races?

  • Sprint Races 1 & 2 The winner is allocated 15 points. Second and third places are awarded with 12 and 10 points, respectively. 4th place – 8 pts 5th place – 6 pts 6th place – 4 pts 7th place – 2 pts 8th place – 1 pt

  • Feature Race The winner is allocated 25 points. Second and third places are awarded with 18 and 15 points, respectively. 4th place – 12 pts 5th place – 10 pts 6th place – 8 pts 7th place – 6 pts 8th place – 4 pts 9th place – 2 pts 10th place – 1 pt

4- Why are there more points awarded in the Feature Race on Sunday?

Sunday’s event is the Feature Race: the starting grid is decided by the Friday Qualifying results. Moreover, it is the longer race which features a mandatory pitstop. Finally, the race takes place ahead of the Formula 1 Grand Prix, in front of a larger crowd.

5- How many points are allocated for Pole Position?

4 points are allocated for Pole Position.

Note: if the driver who has set the quickest laptime of the Qualifying Session receives a grid penalty for the Feature Race, he will no longer be eligible for the points for Pole Position. Only the driver who starts from Pole Position in the Feature Race is allocated 4 points. To clarify, when a driver is promoted to Pole Position, he is credited of 4 points even if he has not set the quickest laptime in Qualifying.

6- Are drivers starting from reverse pole position in Sprint Races 1 and 2 awarded 4 points as well?

No. Only the driver who starts from Pole Position on Sunday for the Feature Race is allocated 4 points.

7- What is the maximum number of points a driver can score in one race weekend?

65 points

8- What is the maximum number of points a team can score in one race weekend?

107 points

9- How many points are allocated for Fastest Lap in the races? Who is eligible for Fastest Lap points?

2 points are awarded for Fastest Lap in each race.

Since 2021, points for Fastest Lap are awarded to the quickest driver of the race only if he classifies in the Top 10. Failing that, no points are awarded for Fastest Lap.

10- Which Grade License is needed to race in F2, and what is the minimum age to compete in the championship?

Grade A or B.

The minimum age to compete in Formula 2 is 17 years old.
