Rafael Villagómez continues with Van Amersfoort Racing as 2026 grid is finalised
Van Amersfoort Racing have announced the signing of Rafael Villagómez for the 2026 FIA Formula 2 season – completing the grid for the upcoming campaign.
Villagómez is set to return for a third season in F2 this year, fresh from a strong showing in 2025 where he achieved two podiums and finished 14th in the Drivers' Championship.
This means Villagómez and VAR are set to continue their affiliation for the fifth consecutive season, with the Mexican driver having first raced for them in 2021.
Speaking about continuing his relationship with the team, and also returning for another season in Formula 2, Villagómez says he is excited to get going again in 2026.
"I’m extremely excited and grateful to be staying another year in F2 with VAR,” said Villagómez. “Together with the team, we finished the season strongly which gives me great confidence heading into the new year. I can’t wait to get back on track, and work with the team to achieve even stronger results in the upcoming season."
Van Amersfoort Racing Team Principal Brad Joyce also added: “We’re very happy to continue with Rafael for 2026. Over the past seasons, he’s shown strong commitment and a clear step forward in performance. The podiums in Barcelona and Qatar were defining moments, but more importantly, they reflect the progress we’ve made together. We’re looking forward to building on that momentum and fighting for the top steps of the podium together.”
