Taylor Barnard is hopeful that he and AIX Racing can continue their fine form at his home weekend at Silverstone, with his targets set on adding more points to his and their tallies.

Barnard and AIX had a difficult start to the season, as they went without scoring a single point at each of the opening three rounds.

But their fortunes have changed since the in-season test in Barcelona back in April, as in the four rounds that have followed AIX have achieved their first points, podium and victory.

Round 7 in Spielberg also produced another first for the team as Barnard and his teammate Joshua Duerksen both finished the Feature Race in the top 10, giving AIX their maiden double points finish.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: Some of the key areas of interest heading to Silverstone

Looking ahead to Round 8, Barnard said: “I’m not feeling too bad, the weather is a little bit up and down so it's going to make things interesting for the weekend.

“Of course it's my home race, so quite positive, quite good vibes for the weekend. I'm staying at the circuit as well, so it makes it more of a home race, so I am looking forward to it.

“The car has made a big step forward since the test, I'm struggling a little bit with it still, but it's definitely been good steps forward and of course having both cars in the points is something we are targeting every race now.”

Expanding further on what he expects from the weekend, Barnard continued to mention that weather, with rain forecasted for both Friday and Saturday sessions.

While a few drivers might be hoping for drier conditions, Barnard is not one of those, with the rookie hoping the skies open and that we can get some unpredictable racing.

“The weather will be up and down, but for me it would be better if it's wet,” he continued. “It makes things a little bit more unpredictable for everyone else.

“I think our car will be quite good, the guys are usually quite on it to change the car for different conditions, so there are not really any concerns in terms of car setup.

Silverstone Preview: The triple header ends with a high-speed test

“Looking at myself I drove here last year in Formula 3, I was quite fast, had some good results, so I am curious to see what will happen.”

Barnard also went on to explain what he believes the keys will be in terms of setup for AIX in case it does not rain around the high-speed circuit.

“I mean at the end of the day, the track is very high speed and fast and flowing,” he added. “So, if you get a good flow into the track and of course if the car is very good at performing in the high speed, then that is going to be the key to performing around this track.”

On his goals for the weekend, Barnard added: “Of course I want to win but I think everyone wants to win at their home, but of course realistic goals will be to score points.”
