Aston Martin have confirmed that Felipe Drugovich will be taking over driving duties from Fernando Alonso for the opening Practice session of the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend.
The 2022 Formula 2 Champion and Aston Martin Reserve Driver will be at the wheel after the team released a statement relating to an injury Alonso sustained following the Belgian Grand Prix one week ago.
"In the days following the Belgian Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso has been managing a muscular injury in his back,” the statement said.
“As he continues with treatment this morning, he has chosen to sit out of FP1. Felipe Drugovich will drive in FP1 alongside Lance Stroll. A decision will then be made on Fernando’s participation in FP2 and the remainder of the weekend in due course."
Drugovich will be on track alongside another F2 alumni, with Paul Aron driving for Kick Sauber alongside 2024 F2 Champion Gabriel Bortoleto for the opening session of the F1 weekend.
