Title Chase Intensifies

As always, F2 is full of surprises! Up until Monaco, Nicholas Latifi was poised and scored big points in every round. Last week did not go according to plan though, but he still managed to score two bonus points for fastest lap in the Sprint Race. Meanwhile, Nyck De Vries had an incredible weekend with pole position, a win and a 7th place. Latifi’s lead in the Drivers’ Championship has been reduced to just one point over De Vries. Luca Ghiotto and Jack Aitken are still very much within reach. The season is still long… I’m impatient to see what the next rounds hold!

Roaring Rookies

I’m also very pleased to see that our rookies are making a lasting impression. Before Monaco, Guanyu Zhou, Juan Manuel Correa, Callum Ilott and Anthoine Hubert had already done fairly well, as all of them - bar the Frenchman - had taken podium finishes, and also scored big points in the Championship. Last week, Ilott classified top of his Group on Thursday meaning that he started the Feature Race in P2. Unfortunately, some mechanical gremlins ruined his chances. Meanwhile, his teammate Correa took 16 points overall on a very technical track. As for the pair of the Renault Academy drivers, Hubert claimed a maiden win and became the first rookie to do so whilst Zhou took third – his second podium finish in 2019. They are definitely ones to watch!

Only in Monaco!

Our racing rarely run smoothly in Monaco: our drivers are eager to shine on this prestigious track which sometimes leads to some chaos on the circuit. This year was no exception and our Feature Race was red flagged, creating some confusion on and off track. It is unfortunate, but looking at the results, those who finished on the podium fully deserved their places.

FIA Volunteers Weekend

The FIA celebrated their volunteers last weekend and I believe this is a very important initiative. We were pleased to bring some of the spotlight on the marshals’ hard work and dedication. They help make our racing safe and our drivers are grateful to them. The volunteers at the Monaco Grand Prix are notoriously among the best in the world. It was the perfect place and time to shine a light on their peers last weekend.
