Arjun Maini will return to the FIA Formula 2 Championship with Campos Racing, joining Jack Aitken in a new look driver line up.

The Indian born driver replaces Frenchman Dorian Boccolacci at Campos and will compete alongside Championship contender Aitken. Maini recently made his debut in Le Mans 24 Hours, becoming the youngest Indian to feature in the historic race.

Born in Bangalore, India, the 21-year-old is part of a family of racing drivers, with his father and brother also both in motorsport. Having enjoyed numerous successes across a six-year karting career, he made the step up to single-seater racing in 2013, when he claimed the Asia Cup Series title and ranked second in the JK Racing India Series.

His European racing debut came a year later and he claimed the Vice-Championship in the BRDC Formula 4 Championship behind last season’s FIA Formula 2 champion George Russell. Maini spent several seasons in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship before joining GP3, where he became the first Indian driver to win a race in the series.

He previously competed in F2 in 2018 with Trident, finishing 16th in the Championship in his rookie year. The Indian is also a Haas Development driver in Formula 1.

On returning to F2, Maini commented: “As I have always stated, Formula One remains my ultimate aim. We made a decision to try something different this year and irrespective of the results, I believe it has worked for the best as my time in the LMP2 car has definitely helped prepare me for the future.

“I'm looking forward to these next few weeks and I hope I can put my best foot forward in both rounds. I know that joining mid-season without any testing is not easy for anyone but I am prepared to take on the Challenge."

Campos Racing President Adrián Campos added: “I have closely followed Arjun’s racing career for several years. He is a driver with the necessary blend of talent and commitment to make his prospects extremely interesting. It is fantastic to have him on board with us and our driver line-up consisting of Arjun and Jack (Aitken) is really strong. I am amazed by our new pairing in the FIA Formula 2 Championship.”
