Alpine has announced that Virtuosi Racing's Jack Doohan will get to sample its 2021 Formula 1 car in a test at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar this weekend.

The Alpine junior driver will be in the car on Sunday following compatriot and 2021 F2 champion Oscar Piastri’s two-day test earlier this week.

Doohan became part of the Alpine junior line-up ahead of the 2022 season following his four-year stint with the Red Bull Junior Team.

The Australian driver said that he had been preparing extensively in the team’s simulator back at its Enstone base in the UK.

“I’m super excited to drive a Formula 1 car for the first time,” he said of the announcement. “This is a moment that I’ve been building up to ever since I started racing karts, and I know these opportunities are extremely privileged.

“I’m very grateful to Alpine for the opportunity and I’m looking forward to giving it my best on the test day. I’ve watched behind the scenes at some private tests before and I’ve completed a lot of preparation in the loop simulator at Enstone, so I’m definitely feeling ready for this challenge.

“I’ll build myself up on the day, enjoy it at the same time and hopefully learn as much as possible alongside the team.”

So far in 2022, Doohan has experienced mixed fortunes in his maiden F2 campaign. He took pole position at the opening round in Bahrain but has missed out on a first victory in the championship as of yet despite promising displays.

Doohan will be at the wheel of the A521 on Sunday in Losail ahead of round four of the Formula 2 season the following weekend in Barcelona.
