Oliver Goethe is confident that he has what it takes to win the 2025 Formula 2 title as he previewed his first full season in the Championship with MP Motorsport.

The German driver took part in the final four rounds of the 2024 campaign with the team, his best result coming at the Lusail Feature Race where he finished in P4.

He returns with MP in 2025 and looking ahead to the season, Goethe feels his eight races last year should serve him well.

“I'm feeling good, I’m feeling excited,” said Goethe. “It's a huge year for me. It's my first full year in in Formula 2, so I'm ready to give it all I've got.

“I understand it's an important year in my career, so there's definitely a lot of excitement. I think I have the potential to do a very good season with a good team, so I'll just do my best.

“I think doing the last four rounds gives me a small advantage, mainly because I got to learn a couple tracks that maybe some drivers jumping up from F3 won't know, like Qatar for example.

“In Abu Dhabi, there was the three-day test, so I think everyone got quite a lot of experience in the car. There are also more days in Barcelona, so I think car wise everyone will be quite up to date.

“But it was good to get some race experience and learn Qatar and Baku. The races went well, I'm very happy with how we did, I think we showed some good progress, some good potential and I think the pace can be there for this year.”

His time with the team in 2024 came with plenty of positives but it also gave Goethe areas that he needs to improve. He highlighted his long run pace when compared to teammate Richard Verschoor needed work based on how things went in Abu Dhabi.

“I think my long runs need a little bit of work compared to Richard in Abu Dhabi,” he explained. “He did a very good stint in the Feature Race. He's got a lot of experience, so it's good to learn from someone like him.

“I think consistency is key in Formula 2, so my goal is to be as consistent as possible. There were some races where I was struggling a bit more and a couple of races which went really well like Qatar.

“So, I think to be consistent is key and I think this is one of my biggest goals for next year. But there's a lot of positives that we've shown from the last few races, so as long as I'm consistent, I think the pace will be there and I think we can get results.”

Consistency was Goethe’s calling card during his 2024 Formula 3 season when he finished in the points in each of the opening 12 races. While he was happy with that, he noted that many of those results were at the back end of the points.

But he is now ready to take the next step and feels he in a great place at MP to do so, working alongside many “familiar faces” from his time in Formula 4 with the team.

The 20-year-old lauded the atmosphere within the team believing that they can have the “best year possible”. As for what that means, Goethe says a shot at the title is the ultimate goal.

“I think I know that I have what it takes to fight for the Championship,” says Goethe. “The level is very high, the competition is very high, but I know it's possible, so I like to set my goals high, and I think we definitely have a chance of fighting for the Championship.”
