The inside scout: Marino Sato

NAME: Marino Sato DATE OF BIRTH: 12/05/1999 TEAM: Trident
FIRST RACING MEMORY
“My first race in go-karts is the first thing that I can remember. My engine was 40cc, although I think there were some kids running 50cc. Somehow, I started well and was around second in the race... Although I wasn't clear on the rules, so I was looking back and swerving left and right to defend the place and I got a back flag! I was only like five years old.”

BIGGEST RACING ACHIEVEMENT
“Record wise, becoming the Euroformula Open champion last season, winning nine times and scoring three further podiums, beating Liam Lawson to the title.”
RACING STYLE
“On the steering, I think I am quite smooth, I wouldn't say there is anything particularly different about it. Maybe I am less smooth on the braking, but steering wise, I would say I am quite smooth.”

RACING HERO
“Kimi Raikkonen. Partly for his personality because I think he is a cool guy. He’s had a great career and when I was watching Formula 1 when I was younger, I remember him winning the championship with Ferrari.”
__FAVOURITE TRACK ON THE F2 CALENDAR __
“I don’t really have one particular favourite, but if I had to choose, then I would say Monza is a nice place. I have spent a lot of time in Italy and it is a very familiar place for me.”
