Formula 2 opens 2025 season with pre-season testing in Barcelona

The wait is just about over with Formula 2 cars set to take to the track for the first time in 2025 at pre-season testing.

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya hosts three days of running ahead of Round 1 next month and it’s the final chance for teams and drivers to prepare for the upcoming campaign.

After the winter break, here is what you need to know ahead of pre-season testing.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Testing is crucial for teams and drivers to iron out any issues ahead of serious and competitive running commencing. Barcelona offers a very familiar venue for everyone, helping them get up to speed quickly.

Running begins on February 24th with the morning segment going from 09:00 local time to 12:00. Following a two-hour lunch break, running resumes for the afternoon session from 14:00 and 17:00.

That continues on Day 2, however the run plan is adjusted for the final day. The first half will once again go from 09:00 to 12:00 before a shorter, one-hour break is followed by the final segment of the week from 13:00 to 16:00 local time.

Pirelli will bring five sets of the white-walled Hard compound tyres along with three sets of Softs and three sets of Wet tyres.

• The 2025 grid welcomes 12 drivers who competed in Formula 3 last season alongside 9 returning drivers and rookie John Bennett
• There are seven F2 race winners on the grid this season: Roman Stanek, Josep María Martí, Richard Verschoor, Jak Crawford, Kush Maini, Victor Martins and Joshua Duerksen
• 16 nationalities are represented across the grid in 2025
