RB Formula 1 Team have confirmed that Liam Lawson will be racing for the team for the rest of the 2024 season, replacing Daniel Ricciardo.
Lawson previously raced for the team under their previous guise as AlphaTauri, taking part in five rounds during 2023, deputising for Ricciardo who suffered a broken hand.
His best result during that stint came at the Singapore Grand Prix where he finished ninth, before returning to his role as reserve driver for the rest of the season and for the first 18 races of the 2024 campaign.
Prior to that, Lawson spent two seasons in FIA Formula 2, winning five races and achieving 13 podiums in total during that time, before also finishing third in the 2022 Drivers’ Championship.
The New Zealander will now step back into the cockpit for the final six races of the year alongside fellow Formula 2 graduate Yuki Tsunoda, starting at the Unites States Grand Prix next month.
RB Team Principal Laurent Mekies said: “Everyone here at VCARB would like to thank Daniel for his hard work across the last two seasons with us. He has brought a lot of experience and talent to the Team with a fantastic attitude, which has helped everyone to develop and foster a tight team spirit. Daniel has been a true gentleman both on and off the track and never without that smile. He will be missed, but will always hold a special place within the Red Bull family.
"I’d also like to take this opportunity to welcome Liam. He already knows the Team well. He drove for us last season, and coped well under difficult circumstances, so it’ll be a natural transition. It’s great to see young talent from within the Red Bull family make the next step. We’re looking forward to getting our heads down and focusing on the rest of the season together."
