Dan Ticktum has taken at least one podium in every single round since switching to Carlin, marking himself out as one of the most consistent drivers on the field. Currently sitting third in the standings, how would he grade his own performances?
The 22-year-old fills out his mid-season report card…
NAME: Dan Ticktum TEAM: Carlin AGE: 22 PODIUMS: 5 WINS: 1
RATING OUT OF 10: 7 or 8
“Pretty good. I think that I have driven well. A couple of incidents, in Baku and Monaco, take that score down a bit. Other than that, I think that I have driven pretty well in most circumstances. “
WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE SEASON SO FAR?
“Overall, relatively positive. I feel like there have been improvements from myself. I need to continue to improve, though, and so do the team, a little bit. Overall, I think that we have been pretty strong and have gotten some decent results. We have scored a podium in every single round, so I think that’s pretty good.”
WHAT HAS BEEN THE STRONGEST ASPECT OF YOUR SEASON SO FAR?
“Probably the pace that we showed in Baku, the results didn't really reflect that, with just one podium, but we were so quick and that was encouraging.”
WHAT HAS BEEN THE WEAKEST ASPECT OF THE SEASON SO FAR?
“That is a tough one, but I would say the move in Monaco on (Oscar) Piastri that cost me a podium. That was a tough one, I think that it was just a very tricky situation.
“In terms of improving on that, I feel that I need to be a little bit more patient and think a little bit more about the bigger picture. I am maybe a little bit too desperate to win. I need to learn to sit back sometimes.”
WHY ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO THE SECOND HALF OF THE SEASON?
“There are a lot of tracks coming up where Carlin have been very strong in the past, so that is good. I know that I am fast at Monza because I won there last year, although a penalty took that away.
“The team are very quick in Sochi, and I think that we can be fast at Jeddah, looking at the layout of that circuit. I know the team are quick at Abu Dhabi as well. As a team, we should have a strong second half of the season. Like I said, I just need to be more patient and make sure that I score as many points as I can."
