This weekend’s Mexico City Grand Prix will see several drivers, both from the past and the present of Formula 2, taking part in Free Practice 1.
While for some it will be their first time driving on a Formula 1 race weekend, for others it will be another chance in F1 machinery, so we thought we would run through all those jumping into the cockpit on Friday.
On the current grid, Jak Crawford, who is second in the Drivers’ Championship, is set to take over Lance Stroll’s car at Aston Martin, the American getting his first driving experience on an F1 race weekend.
Third in this year’s Championship Luke Browning will also be back in the cockpit for Williams for his second FP1 outing of the year after his previous showing in Bahrain. He is set to take over driving duties from Carlos Sainz.
Arvid Lindblad is the third driver on the 2025 grid that will be taking part this weekend. He will be taking over Max Verstappen’s car at Red Bull Racing, after previously driving next to the reigning World Champion at Silverstone earlier this year.
Last season’s third place finisher Paul Aron will be in the Alpine A525 for the second time this year, after his Monza outing, when he replaces Pierre Gasly.
It will be the Estonian’s fourth FP1 outing of the season having previously driven at Silverstone and Budapest for Kick Sauber.
Our runner-up from the 2023 Formula 2 season Frederik Vesti will also be in action, as he will replace 2018 F2 Champion George Russell at Mercedes.
Ayumu Iwasa, who finished fourth in the 2023 campaign, will also be driving this weekend, taking over from 2024 runner-up Isack Hadjar at Racing Bulls.
Lastly, Antonio Fuocco, who achieved three victories and 11 podiums across his two seasons in F2, will be taking over Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari for the 60-minute session.
