It was definitely a tale of two races for Felipe Drugovich in Monte Carlo. The Championship leader endured a miserable Saturday after contact at the start of the Sprint Race but rebounded brilliantly to prevail in the Feature event.

We put the MP Motorsport driver in charge of the fifth Guest Column of the 2022 Formula 2 season, letting him run through his good and bad moments, party plans and providing us with some insight into what comes next in Baku.

ONE GOOD POINT - STRONG PACE

The speed in quali, the true pace of the car. We didn’t expect to have a such a good performance in Monaco and it was quite a surprise for us. We tried to make it better and improve but we didn’t know before the weekend if we were going to be quick or not, so it was very positive to see. It feels good.

ONE BAD POINT - SPRINT RACE START

The start of race one. I had to avoid Jake Hughes, he stalled at the start and because of that, I had to back off a little bit. I think was (Roy) Nissany came from the behind and hit into the back of my car and we had a puncture. After that it wasn’t an ideal race. It compromised us a little bit for Sunday’s race too.

WHAT I LEARNED - EXPERIENCE AT MONACO

Experience in general, with the track especially. Looking at the Feature Race, the level of concentration the top two needed to have – one looking in the mirrors the whole time and the other guy just pushing like crazy to be there the whole time and push the other guy forward. It was quite mental but quite cool.

FANS MAY HAVE MISSED - THE AFTERPARTY

Going out after Sunday’s race to celebrate in a club. We managed to find almost every racing driver there at the track, it was quite funny. It was a good night.

NEXT UP - BAKU

Baku is a very challenging circuit – probably one of the most challenging circuits just because of the braking points. You need to brake late all the time. Braking at a street circuit is quite bumpy, that’s one of the main points everyone is going to be very focused on – braking performance. Also, the massively-long straight which is also really cool. It’s going to be a good weekend. I like the track, I did well last year, think I finished P4 in the Feature Race so hopefully this year we can keep on going like that.
