Following the conclusion of Friday’s Qualifying in Monte Carlo, Joshua Duerksen, Kush Maini and John Bennett have been handed penalties.
Firstly, Duerksen has been handed a three-place grid penalty for impeding.
Duerksen was summoned to the stewards after allegedly impeding ART Grand Prix driver Kish Maini during the session.
After hearing from both drivers, along with their respective team representatives, the Stewards determined that Duerksen had unnecessarily impeded Maini at Turn 6, breaching Article 31.6 of the FIA Formula 2 Sporting Regulations.
As a result, they elected to hand Duerksen a three-place grid penalty for both the Sprint and Feature Race.
Secondly, Kush Maini has also been given a three-place grid penalty for causing a collision with Laurens van Hoepen at Turn 10.
The Stewards spoke to both drivers and their team representatives and also examined video evidence, and they determined that Maini had been predominantly to blame for the incident.
As a result, Maini has a three-place grid penalty to be served in both races.
John Bennett has had his fastest time deleted for being the sole cause of a Red Flag.
The driver of Car 25 went into the barrier at Turn 1 causing the session to be Red Flagged.
The Stewards heard from both the driver and a team representative and also examined video evidence and decided that the failure of the driver to negotiate Turn 1 was within both the driver and team’s control and, as such, a penalty was warranted.
With Bennett’s fastest lap being deleted, it left him without a time inside of the required 107% qualifying time. However, the Stewards have given him permission to start both the Sprint and Feature Race.
Additionally, Laurens van Hoepen has also been given permission to start both races after being outside 107% of the qualifying time.
