Enzo Fittipaldi left Round 3 with his first piece of F2 silverware in Sunday’s Feature Race, starting from a lowly P15. His mature drive and patience at the wheel of the Charouz Racing System car led him to second at the flag.

We handed the popular Brazilian the reigns for our third Guest Column of the season, where he pens his thoughts on the good and the bad, as well as the lessons he learned and the reasons why he is looking forward to go to Barcelona next month.

ONE GOOD POINT – THE FEATURE RACE

It was the Feature Race, starting from P15 and finishing second. It was simply amazing! We were able to show our pace on track. We were fast all weekend, so I was very happy to show our real pace on Sunday, with great overtakes along the way. It was the first podium of the season, and I hope it was the first of many…

ONE BAD POINT FROM THE WEEKEND - QUALIFYING

When it was raining, we were in the Top 5, we were really fast. Then we boxed at the same time as everyone else to put the second set of new tyres and the track was drying. Unfortunately, I had an issue with my left rear during my stop, I think the wheel nut was damaged and we lost a lot of time in the pits. I went out with only a couple of minutes left to go and we ended up P15. I think we should have been in the Top 6. It was a difficult point, definitely.

WHAT I LEARNED - PATIENCE

I learned how important patience is. We started P15, had a really good start, I was in the top 10. The strategy was good and just being consistent, make no mistakes, taking care of the tyres… That was really important in that race. I took good care of my tyres, and that’s why I was able to make those last three overtakes in the final couple of laps. I think the tyre management was really good. That’s something I learned this weekend.

NEXT UP - BARCELONA

Next stop is Barcelona. I’m really looking forward to it. We had a really good test there a few weeks ago. I just hope we keep the momentum after the podium in Imola, and get in the Top 10 in Quali and be up there and fighting for points…
