Alesi switches to MP Motorsport, replacing Matsushita

Giuliano Alesi has joined MP Motorsport ahead of Round 10 in Sochi, following the news of his exit from BWT HWA RACELAB this morning. The Ferrari junior replaces Nobuharu Matsushita at the Dutch outfit, who has “decided to move on to fresh challenges elsewhere.”
Alesi is in his second season of Formula 2, and finished 15th last year, with 20 points The Frenchman followed this up with sixth place in the season opening Feature Race in Spielberg, but has not scored since then.
Son of mercurial Formula 1 racer Jean Alesi, the 21-year-old will join Felipe Drugovich at MP, who sit seventh in the Teams’ Championship, with three wins.

“I am super happy, excited and most of all motivated to be working with MP and starting this new adventure in Formula 2,” said Alesi. “So I’m really looking forward to Sochi, and can’t wait to get in the car and get started.”
Alesi made his single-seater debut back in 2015, taking three wins in his maiden French F4 campaign to earn a place in the Ferrari Driver Academy. Moving to GP3 for 2016, he scored four wins in three seasons, before stepping up to F2.
