Joshua Duerksen on ‘dream weekend’ and sweeping Monza

It was a record-equaling weekend for Joshua Duerksen and one he dubbed one of his best of his career.

Sprint and Feature Race victory after missing out on pole by a tenth of a second to his teammate hauled him up to eighth in the Drivers’ Championship after a tough phase of the season.

Reflecting on his performance on Sunday, the Invicta Racing driver called it ‘a dream come true’ and said he was eager to earn the Formula 2 win record outright with a ninth victory before the end of the 2026 campaign.

"Incredible, really a dream come true. I think every driver could dream of a double win in Monza. I'm privileged enough to have this opportunity to say that I've won both races on the same weekend, just incredible really.

“The car was amazing, my pace was good, I felt good, so it's just an incredible race today. Eight wins now, right? That's really cool, I need to break that record. I want the ninth win. Maybe in Madrid, and then more in Baku as well.”

Diving into the race in more depth, Duerksen explained how tricky it was to control from the front, with the Safety Car wiping out his advantage.

He then had to contend with teammate Rafael Câmara in the closing stages, with the Brazilian following in his wheel tracks within DRS range.

Duerksen says that his performance and victories have boosted his confidence going into the rest of what is a busy month, and he is targeting more of the same in Madrid and Baku.

"It was quite tricky. Rafa and I were both very quick. I felt he had a little bit more pace than me on the Supersoft, that's why I boxed a bit earlier. Then my pace on the Softs was super strong.

“I created a good gap where I could just pull away a bit or at least keep the same gap with Rafa. And then with the Safety Car, for sure not ideal, but I managed to have a very good restart where I managed to break the one-second gap, which then I could hold until the last four or five laps.

"Rafa was also very quick, and the guys from Invicta have done an amazing job, and I'm very proud of them. We had a very tough middle phase of the season. But I never stopped believing that I can do it, that I have the talent for it, or the capability.

“And I could finally show my true potential here in Monza. I think these are for sure some of my best races I would say, and I want to continue with this rhythm for the next races.”
