Mari Boya given permission to start both Melbourne races

Following the conclusion of Friday’s Qualifying session in Melbourne, Mari Boya has been given permission to start both the Sprint and Feature Race from the back of the grid.
Boya lost his fastest time from Qualifying after he crashed into the barrier at the exit of Turn 12, causing a Red Flag. As the sole cause of the stoppage, Boya breached Article 33.5 of the FIA Formula 2 Sporting Regulations.
The Stewards examined the available video evidence and also consulted the Race Director before determining that the Spaniard was the sole cause of the Red Flag.
The Stewards found that Boya’s failure to negotiate Turn 12 was within both the driver and team’s control, and because of that felt a penalty was warranted and deleted his fastest lap time.
As a result, Boya was left without a representative time from Qualifying within the 107% cut-off. He has been given permission to start both races by the Stewards.
