Oscar Piastri to race for Alpine F1 Team in 2023

FOLLOW UP: Piastri denies news of 2023 F1 promotion with Alpine
Oscar Piastri will race for Alpine F1 Team next season the team has confirmed. The Australian has served as reserve driver for the French outfit since winning the Formula 2 title last year, but will make the step up to full-time race driver in 2023.
After joining the Alpine Academy, Piastri went on a run of back-to-back titles beginning in Formula Renault Eurocup followed by the FIA Formula 3 and 2 titles. He became the third driver to achieve successive Championships in F2 and F3 after Charles Leclerc and George Russell.
Racing alongside Esteban Ocon next season, Piastri will be part of the team's long-term vision of winning Championships in F1 Alpine Team Principal Otmar Szafnauer said.
“Oscar is a bright and rare talent. We are proud to have nurtured and supported him through the difficult pathways of the junior formulae.
"Through our collaboration over the past four years, we have seen him develop and mature into a driver who is more than capable of taking the step up to Formula 1. As our reserve driver he has been exposed to the team at the track, factory and testing where he has shown the maturity, promise and speed to ensure his promotion to our second seat alongside Esteban.
"Together, we believe the duo will give us the continuity we need to achieve our long-term goal of challenging for wins and championships.”
