Ragebaiting, iRacing and being closely matched: Getting To Know Teammates Alexander Dunne and Martinius Stenshorne

Rodin Motorsport teammates Alexander Dunne and Martinius Stenshorne recently talked about their first impressions of each other, to sim racing arguments and what it has been like working together this year

Teammates Alexander Dunne and Martinius Stenshorne are a close pair, not only on the track but away from it as well, and recently we caught up with them to talk about their friendship.

The Rodin Motorsport duo revealed how they used to annoy one another, how they work together to get better, who won their arm wrestle competition and much more.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU KNOWN EACH OTHER?

Martinius Stenshorne: Since 2019 maybe?

Alexander Dunne: 2020? We’ve known each other since 2017, that’s when we first race against each other. But friends, I would say 2020.

WHAT WERE YOUR FIRST IMPRESSIONS OF THE OTHER?

Dunne: I don’t really remember. Mainly a lot of the stuff we did together originally was on the sim. We have quite a big friend group who all play with each other on iRacing and numerous different games. So it started back then when we were still in karting.

Stenshorne: I don't even remember it was so long ago. I think you were always screaming at me and I was ragebaiting Alex. Alex was very easy to rage bait back then.

Dunne: Martinius is the type of person that whenever we're playing, it's a bit better now, but when we were younger, he was always the type of person where he would just annoy everyone. Everyone thought it was funny, but he was the type of person that would just annoy everyone. He's just liked to rage bait and say stupid stuff. It was always funny.

Stenshorne: Alex was very easy to rage bait so it helped. It's not so much like that anymore.

Dunne: He was always winding people up and I would always give in so we would end up screaming at each other.

Both drivers recalled their first impressions of each other and their arguments over the simulator

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR TEAMMATE?

Dunne: I’ll let you go first.

Stenshorne: Fast.

Dunne: Funny. Like I said whenever we're on the sim at home even if he's doing stupid stuff, he always ends up making most of the people laugh, which is good.

WHO’S THE FUNNIEST?

Stenshorne: Alex.

Dunne: I think it kind of depends on the scenario. I would say it's 50-50.

WHAT WOULD THEY DO IF THEY WEREN’T RACING?

Dunne: Martinius would be a karting mechanic.

Stenshorne: Alex would be a sim racer.

The duo revealed what they think the other would do if they were not a racing driver

WHO KNOWS THE MOST ABOUT CARS?

Dunne: Probably Martinius to be honest.

Stenshorne: Karts, I win! Cars? I don’t know.

Dunne: I don't think we're the type of people that care that much.

Stenshorne: I don't care. I don't care about cars at all. I drive a big van

Dunne: He’s a crafter.

Stenshorne: I have a big van with my go-karts in the back, so I think that shows that I don't really care about cars.

Dunne: I like cars and I like the idea of having a nice car, but knowing the inside, I don't really care about it too much.

Stenshorne: I would just like to have a car that sounds good.

WHO’S ON THEIR PHONE THE MOST?

Dunne: Probably me.

Stenshorne: Alex!

BUT WHO TAKES THE LONGEST TO REPLY?

Stenshorne: Maybe me.

Dunne: You’re not that bad.

Stenshorne: Maybe, but he's for sure more on his phone than me. I think my screen time is just three hours or something.

Dunne: I would say on average, it's probably seven and above. But it's been a lot higher than that, quite a few times.

Stenshorne: I think if we take the screen time on the sim, it's worse.

The duo also spend a lot of time training together at Rodin

SO WHO’S ON THE SIM THE MOST AND WHO IS IN THE GYM THE MOST?

Stenshorne: Sim, probably Alex. Gym, I don't know to be honest, and running, maybe me more.

Dunne: Neither of us spend that much time on our sim.

Stenshorne: Yeah, we do spend time on the sim, but not much driving.

Dunne: Exactly. We spend a lot of time in our sims doing different stuff, but actually driving on the sim, at least on our home sims, we don't do half as much as what we used to do and in the sim at Rodin, it's pretty similar. Whenever we go for a run or train at Rodin, we always do it together, so it's pretty similar.

WHAT’S THE BIGGEST THING YOU HAVE LEARNED FROM EACH OTHER?

Dunne: I think in general for me in comparison to last season and now, I think Martinius and I have been very similar in pace every weekend. So for me to have another aspect of learning and someone to push against me, I think for me is quite important. Out of all the teammates I've had so far, he's probably the one that I felt like I've been the closest with. So to have someone to push you on is a good thing.

Stenshorne: Yeah, it's always like that. So then it's good to have so you can compare and see. Because you're never driving every corner perfect, so then it's always nice to have a reference when both are quite fast and we can compare.

WHO WOULD WIN IN AN ARM WRESTLE?

Stenshorne: We’ve done that. I won.

Dunne: Martinius is quite strong.

Stenshorne: We need to do it again, but not in front of everyone.
