You’re the boss – Luca Ghiotto

We hand the reigns over to Luca Ghiotto who crafts a new addition to the FIA Formula 2 calendar. Choosing everything from the country, to the celebrities that he would invite, the Italian creates a new race weekend.

Where would the race be held?

No where else comes to my mind, so I will choose Italy. I know there is already a race there, but I would do another one. I think that I would probably choose my hometown, Vicenza. It is not such a big city, but it is quite cool. It is one of those classic Italian cities with old buildings in the middle.

What type of track would it be?

I think that it would be cool to have a street track that goes around the old town. It is tough to really get close to the centre of Vicenza, because it is one of those zones where you can only walk, but we would make a good effort to put some good tarmac down and be able to go through.

On the start / finish straight you would need somewhere to fit the pit area. But, on the back straight, on the other side of the circuit, there is a probably 1km long straight - where you can normally walk - I imagine that being a DRS zone in the middle of these 200/300-year-old houses. That would be cool I think.

I like street circuits with 90 degrees corners and the possibility of overtakes. I would do most of the corners like that, or as hairpins. Then, maybe one sector with a few high-speed ones.

It is tough to find a high-speed section in an old city because it is usually really tight. I have an idea where the circuit should be though and I think that there would be the chance for high-speed corners.

Would it be a day or a night race?

A day race. Singapore is perfect for a night race, because of all of the new buildings, that all look futuristic, but when you go racing in an old city, like an Italian city, then you don't enjoy them as much in the dark. You need the sun in order to see the landscape properly. It would be a normal race time of 2/3pm.

Would it be a wet or a dry race?

A dry race I think. It would already be a tough race track, so I don't want to make things too difficult!

Which celebrity would you invite to the race?

The famous drivers would already be there racing, so none of them. The first people that come to mind are the actors from James Bond. I think that it would be a cool city to make some scenes from the movies in. Maybe they will come there, see the race, then chose the city to make the next film?
