Ritomo Miyata says he is keen to use his experience from his previous two seasons in Formula 2 to fight at the front in 2026, as he previewed his “exciting” move to Hitech TGR for the upcoming campaign.

The Japanese driver is returning to the grid for a third season, making the switch to the 2025 Teams’ Championship runners-up. Speaking on the final day of the year-end test in Yas Marina, Miyata spoke of his enthusiasm for 2026.

“It's very exciting,” said Miyata. “It's going to be amazing season, I hope. Hitech TGR had a really strong 2025 season, and it's good for me, because I can learn from them.

“They are a strong team, so I can improve my driving, and they can also teach me how to have a good season in F2, so it's going to be exciting.”

When asked what his first two seasons in F2 had taught him going into 2026, Miyata used Leonardo Fornaroli’s Championship-winning campaign as an example of what needs to be done.

“First, in F2 it's always important in this series to be consistent,” he said. “In quali, the Sprint, and the Feature Race, especially quali, the important thing is to be inside the top-10.

“Last year, Leo consistently was always good in quali, it's why he always got good race results and I think Hitech TGR has this potential.

“I need to adapt to the Hitech car character and also next season, it will be my third, so I have a lot of experience, so I need to put it together.”

This will be Miyata’s first season where he will be the most experienced driver in his team, as he will be sharing a garage with Colton Herta in 2026.

The 26-year-old sees a lot of similarities between he and the American driver, and says he can’t wait to race alongside him this season.

“I would say seeing my teammate Colton, it's similar to my first year,” said Miyata. “I came from Super Formula, I never drove European circuits, but also Abu Dhabi and Bahrain, so basically all the tracks.

“He has a bit of experience in Europe, but even that, he came from IndyCar and I would say he is a big star. So I am excited to share the track with him, it is very good.”

Looking ahead to the upcoming campaign, Miyata was asked what he was hoping to achieve this season, and he pointed to his Spa-Francorchamps weekend last year where he started and finished in second place – achieving his first podium in F2 – as what he wants to do this year.

“Clearly, I want to get Pole Positions in Quali, and I want to win the races,” said Miyata. “Last season, in 2025, I finished P2, but only one time, and it was the only time I started from the front row.

“So at first, I want to be on pole so I can win the race, and then consistency in quali, the Sprints and the Feature Races.
