Interview
It was points at home for Amaury Cordeel as the Hitech Pulse-Eight driver made the alternative strategy work to come across the line in eight place.
The result was Cordeel’s fifth top 10 finish of the year, and he was pleased with the solid return on a good weekend for him, though he was left with a feeling of what could have been.
After getting stuck behind the PREMA Racing car of Andrea Kimi Antonelli late on, Cordeel says he couldn’t get the maximum out of his strategy in chasing down the Rodin Motorsport duo of Ritomo Miyata and Zane Maloney ahead.
“I think it went pretty well. In a way, a bit disappointed but overall happy with going from P11 to P8. Points are good. We were on the other strategy compared to the others, prime to the option and I think it worked quite well.

“We did a good job in saving the prime tyre and at the end we were strong and showing our pace. I managed the tyres in a good way to have the pace at the end and same on the Softs.
“It was just a shame that we didn’t get past Kimi faster as otherwise, we could have got Miyata at the end because our pace was much faster, but the gap was just too big to Miyata and Zane.
“With a few more laps I would have gotten them. P6 is better than P8 but I’m happy to score points at home. It’s always special to be here, but I’m a bit disappointed I couldn’t bring home a podium but overall, I’m happy with points.”
Four of the five scoring results for Cordeel this season have come in the Feature Race, a demonstration he says that with Hitech, he has been able to exploit better performances in 2024 and show stronger pace.
While he would have liked to secure a better finishing position on more occasions this year, Cordeel says he and the team are well placed to expand on their first half of the season.
Over the past few years, Cordeel has made another step forward in performance in the second half of F2 campaigns, something he is aiming to replicate in 2024.
The Belgian driver added that he was keen to roll the momentum on into Monza, and that he would be right back to work after a short break away from the racing.
“We’ve shown our pace throughout the year already, it’s just been up and down a bit. Sometimes it works out and we have a really strong result like in Jeddah, getting P5. I think also in Imola, we showed that we were really strong but sometimes a bit of luck or bad luck, a mistake from my side or sometimes just bad luck from someone else or an incident elsewhere.
“Now we’re working hard and let’s hope to keep it going for the rest of the season. For me it won’t be a big break, I’ll take this week off and then start working for Monza. It’s one of my favourites along with Spa and Monaco, so I’m looking forward to that.”
