It has been a world of change for Ritomo Miyata as the Japanese Rodin Motorsport driver competes in Europe for the first time in his career.

So far in his rookie FIA Formula 2 campaign, the 24-year-old has achieved plenty of points finishes as he gets to grips with a brand-new Championship, car and language. We sat down with him to get to know him a little more.

WHERE DO YOU CONSIDER HOME?

“Cologne, Germany, but I’ve not been there long because every weekend I’m racing so I don’t get to go home much in the year! I’ve been there since February this year, so not long but it’s good.”

OUTSIDE OF MOTORSPORT WHICH ATHLETE DO YOU LOOK UP TO?

“Outside of motorsport? I have a friend who is a professional soccer player in Japan and sometimes we’ll speak over chat when I’m at home and online in Germany, but it’s tough because of time zones. But I’d say them.”

WHO ARE YOU GOOD FRIENDS WITH ON THE GRID?

“My teammate Zane. The drivers are pretty young compared to me so I’m from a bit of a different generation. Also, I’ve been driving in Japan so it’s my first time in Europe racing, but I’m around Zane on the weekends and at the factory, so it’s been good.”

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE RACING MEMORY

That was a really good moment for me and I was very emotional for me because the team always supported me and I finally won a race.”

One of my teammates from European Le Mans Series knows it well so now my wife wants to go.
