Two drivers have received penalties following the conclusion of Round 8’s Sprint Race in Spielberg.

Firstly, Ayumu Iwasa has received a five second time penalty for forcing Logan Sargeant off track at Turn 3 during the opening lap. The Stewards found that while making a legitimate overtaking attempt around the outside of Iwasa, Sargeant entered the corner slightly ahead of the DAMS driver. Whilst defending, Iwasa locked up under breaking and subsequently forced the Carlin driver off the track.

The Japanese driver had finished in P8, but his penalty promotes Enzo Fittipaldi to eighth, with the Brazilian driver grabbing the final available point.

Secondly, Amaury Cordeel has received a 10 second stop-and-go penalty for overtaking in a double waved yellow flag zone at Turn 2 after the chequered flag. After the conclusion of the race, the Van Amersfoort Racing driver drove to parc ferme at a moderate speed but admitted he did not pay enough attention to any flag signals as he was focused on other things. In their decision, the Stewards reinforced that double waved yellows have a high priority for signalling a potential danger on track and as such, any infringement of the safety regulation cannot be accepted, and severe penalties will be imposed. As the penalty could not be served during the race, it has been converted to a 30 second time penalty.
