Flight, fishing, travel and classic tunes: Behind the Visor with Emerson Fittipaldi

Catching up with Emerson Fittipaldi and what the AIX Racing driver is up to away from the race track

During breaks in the season, it’s crucial for the drivers to reset and make the most of their time outside the car.

We caught up with Emerson Fittipaldi earlier this year to get insight into what the AIX Racing driver gets up to in his spare time.

From getting out on the ocean to getting into a different cockpit, here is how the Brazilian unwinds during his free time.

“Outside the racetrack, I do have hobbies I like to do. Not many, because I'm not so good in other sports, only in racing.

“I really like planes, aeroplanes, and my hobby is flying aeroplane simulators and stuff. So I have a whole setup in the house with really nice stuff and that's where I switch off from racing when I give it a day or two, switch off from racing, reset my mind. So I'll probably do that.

“That passion comes from my dad. And my dad has basically the same passion as me with the fighter jet stuff. And even himself flies the simulator sometimes when he's at home.

“You're by yourself in your fighter jet. You have to go as fast as you can and execute the mission as precise as possible. It's very similar to racing.

“Also fishing. But I only fish in the US, because I like fishing in the ocean. Ever since I moved to Miami, it's pretty common here to go fishing.

So I got used to that and I always liked it. All the time I come back to Miami, I fish here. I don't fish anywhere else in the world. It brings me back all my memories. And I like it just to keep it special for Miami.

“I don’t have that much other things that I do to switch off. I really like to listen to music. Music is a big part of my life, so I really like that. I take it very seriously.

But that's more a necessity for me than a hobby. I like old 80s music, the good stuff. All the top artists from the 80s, Motown, anything. Anything is fine from the 80s.

“I travelled a lot already in my life. So every time I go to some tracks, if it’s a country I don't know, like Australia earlier this year, of course, I spend a little bit of days before the race to explore the country.

“I think it's a good opportunity to learn about the country you're racing in. I mean you're already there, might as well just arrive a couple days earlier, experience the culture and everything about the country. That is very interesting for me.”
