Title fight still ‘very open’ says Câmara ahead of final two rounds
Rafael Câmara still believes there is plenty to play for at the final two rounds after taking the championship lead in Baku

Rafael Câmara took over at the top of the Drivers’ Championship in Baku, but with two rounds the go, he knows the battle is still very much on.
The Invicta Racing driver’s strong weekend in Azerbaijan saw him overturn a seven-point deficit to Nikola Tsolov to now lead his rival by the same margin after his victory in Feature Race 2.
It continues a strong season for Câmara, who has three victories, five pole positions and seven podiums in total, and last month he reflected on his campaign to date.
“I feel good,” said Câmara. “It has been quite a good season so far. We have always been in the fight, always strong, and always in a position to fight every weekend.
“I’ve been quite confident, just doing better every day, and we really just try to maximise what we can, focus on ourselves and then be prepared for these two rounds.

“I think for the championship, it’s about taking what we can and grabbing the most points available every weekend. We've been doing that quite well in the past rounds, and we were able to reduce quite a big gap to Nikola.
“So now it's basically who finishes ahead is probably going to come out in front. But in the same way, knowing that doesn’t change the approach, it is still the same one. That's trying to keep doing what we have been doing and maximise what we can.”

Câmara also spoke his mindset while in the middle of the title fight, having had to chase down Tsolov for much of the season.
“To be honest there's some different scenarios every weekend,” he said. “But in the end, it’s to just keep doing what we've been doing.
“I think the focus is really on what we can maximise, and also to prepare the best ways we can, because for sure the preparation helps you a lot after to be confident and to be calm when it matters.

“We know F2 is a very high level competition, so we need to make sure that we're always doing our best performances, so we can have a good chance every weekend.”
Câmara and Tsolov are the top two, but the Brazilian is aware of Alexander Dunne is 18 points behind him in third, although Gabriele Minì slipped further back after Baku, but still has an outside chance.

Speaking about his rivals, Câmara says the quality of his opponents means he is not taking anything for granted going to Lusail and Yas Marina.
“For sure it's still very open,” he continued. “For sure they are close, but it’s easier knowing that I need to have a bad weekend for them to come up, but also, we know everything can happen in racing.
“You can never, until it's finished, relax. So I just keep focusing on myself and always do our best. So we need to make sure that we're always gaining points.”
