For the first time in the team’s history, Invicta Racing secured a Formula 2 Championship double as they took home the Teams’ title while Gabriel Bortoleto secured honours in the Drivers’ Championship.
They were pushed by Campos Racing until the end, while MP Motorsport returned to the top three after a more difficult campaign last time out. All three teams were represented at the Prize Giving Ceremony, where they each reflected on their achievements from the most recent campaign.
2024 was Invicta Racing’s best yet as the Norfolk-based squad took home both of the big trophies to cap off the year.
Winning two races en route to the Drivers’ Championship, Gabriel Bortoleto went back-to-back after claiming the F3 crown in 2023, writing his name into the history books.
Teammate Kush Maini added another victory to the team’s win tally with Budapest Sprint Race victory, in a hugely successful year for the team.
Team Principal Andy Roche paid tribute to the team and the work they’d put into the new generation of Formula 2 car.
“It’s a fantastic feeling – to take both titles is just unbelievable. So much hard work has gone into it. There were times in the year when the drivers were coming together and I wondered whether we’d be able to make it, but we have. I can’t thank the whole team enough, I really can’t. It’s fantastic.”
For Campos Racing, it was a hugely positive year, but the Spanish team just missed out on both titles, finishing as runners-up in the Teams’ Standings and Drivers’ Championship with Isack Hadjar.
But 2024 was an unmistakable improvement by the team as they enjoyed their most competitive campaign in Formula 2 to date, securing their highest-ever finish in the Championship and comfortably their highest points total also.
While they were unfortunate to miss out in the trophy stakes, Team Manager Enrique Colomina praised the team’s efforts and steps forward in F2.
“For a long time, we’ve not been fighting for these positions so I cannot sum up what it means to us. We’re really happy with this year and we want to keep fighting and going forward.”
After an off year in 2023, MP Motorsport returned to the top three in 2024 with multiple wins and podiums en route to third place in the Teams’ Standings.
It marked the second time in the past three years the team has achieved the feat of a top three finish in F2, as the team looks to have made a marked step forward in recent years.
As Team Manager Cotterill says, the team is pleased to make it into the top three but will be aiming to continue that streak by targeting the biggest trophy come 2025.
“It’s a good result, we’ve won it before but we’re happy to be back in the top three and looking forward to trying to improve on that next year.”
