There is more too Roman Bilinski than the driver you see out on track and in this instalment of Behind the Visor, he talks about what he does in his time away from racing.

The DAMS Lucas Oil rookie talks about his job as a model, his love for fashion and golf, and how training takes up most of his time in between race weekends.

STAYING ACTIVE

“I'm always training away from the track anyway because no matter what I do in life, it's somehow related to motorsport.

“Whether I'm travelling somewhere for training or just travelling in general, it would only be related to racing. But I also like to chill out, play some golf. Also, Dino likes playing golf, so hopefully we can get on the course together.

“I'm quite sure he'll destroy me because I've heard he's very, very good. I'll be searching in the forest for my ball, so we don't talk about my handicap. But I like to sometimes chill out a bit and try different things.”

FASHION AND MODELLING

“Fashion and modelling is quite a recent thing for me. I'd say that it has come about in the past year. I love fashion and I love shopping as well, so it's kind of everything in one. You get to go to some really cool events and meet some amazing people.

“It's quite interesting to me how, in some respects, the fashion and motorsport world is so similar, but also so far apart. But it’s nice to also have like a side quest.

“I'd say in some respects, yes, it is nice to access a different side of myself. But also when you're there, you're doing a job, you're being paid to be with different brands, to look a certain way and everything that comes with it.

“So as much as you can switch off from the racing part, there's this whole other part of now you're working for someone else doing something in a certain way.

“What's interesting is with fashion, my profession is being a model and not a racing driver because I get paid to do that. So that's something quite different.”

SWITCHING OFF AND TRAVELLING BETWEEN ROUNDS

“As you step up racing gets even more intense. So in terms of switching off, I'd say my way is understanding everything from the weekend before.

“If I don't understand everything, where things went wrong, I wouldn't be able to switch off. So as soon as those lessons are learnt, then I'm able to be in a much calmer mindset going into the next week and I will be able to relax a little bit more.

“It's always nice to see new cities and to see different cultures. I think it's something really interesting.

“At such a young age, I'm very lucky to be able to see these things. It's just a great thing to experience and learn about because so every country is a bit different, especially the people.”
