Calan Williams has announced his plans to take part in all three days of post-season testing in Abu Dhabi with Trident as the Formula 3 podium finisher targets a Formula 2 seat in 2022.

The Australian has spent two seasons in F3 with Jenzer Motorsport and finished as the team’s highest points scorer in 2021, taking a maiden podium with P3 in Race 1 at Le Castellet.

“I can’t wait to have my first taste of Formula 2 with such a professional team in Trident Motorsport,” said Williams. “They’ve had great results this year, with their highlight being winning the Teams’ Championship in Formula 3

“I’ve been preparing physically for the testing for the past few months. The step up to a car that is heavier, and corners and accelerates faster than anything I’ve ever experienced before will push me even further, so I need to be ready.

“I’m sure the three-day program will also be intense, so I’ll have my endurance tested as well.”

After winning the 2017 Australian Formula 3 Premier Series with 11 wins and five further podiums, Williams made the switch to European racing.

Since then, the 21-year-old has since competed in the likes of Euroformula Open and Spanish F3, as well as two seasons in FIA F3.

Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager added: “Calan has great potential, and we are very pleased to be working together for the testing in Abu Dhabi. We know he has more to express as he has all the characteristics of a driver to achieve remarkable results.

"During the weeks of preparation, we were able to create a great feeling with the driver, in addition to a great working pace that I am sure will lead to very good results.”

Post-season testing will take place on 16-18 December in Abu Dhabi, following the final round of the season
