Jack Doohan will be at the wheel of the Alpine A524 during Free Practice 1 of the Canadian Grand Prix the team has confirmed.

The Australian will replace Esteban Ocon for the opening session in Montreal for what will be his fifth time driving for the team on an F1 weekend. It follows on from his maiden FP1 appearance at the Mexico City Grand Prix back in 2022 and three further appearances, coming in Mexico and Abu Dhabi in '22 and '23.

Speaking about the opportunity, Doohan said that he was excited at the prospect of tackling the famed Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve for the first time this weekend.

“Really excited to get out on track in Montreal for FP1. It will be my first time at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, which I am looking forward to. I am grateful to the team for the opportunity to get more track time, and also familiarise myself with 2024 machinery early in the season.

“This will also help with the work I am doing in the simulator, particularly at the European rounds. My focus will be on doing the best for the team and maximising the session for both drivers, looking at certain test items and understanding the new track surface.”

Doohan finished the 2023 FIA Formula 2 campaign third in the Drivers’ Championship after a resurgent second half of the season.

Driving for Invicta Virtuosi Racing, the Alpine Academy Reserve Driver earned three race victories, each coming in Feature Races, as well as a further two podium finishes. With his maiden 2022 campaign added in, he claimed six F2 wins in total, along with five Poles and 11 podiums during his time in the Championship.
