Logan Sargeant was a man on a mission at Silverstone. From the moment the cars hit the track in Practice, the American driver and Carlin car were in perfect harmony. Nobody could match his pace in Qualifying as he took his third pole position at the British circuit in as many appearances there.

While many might have expected the pressure of a maiden Formula 2 pole to get to the rookie, Sargeant was cool, calm, and collected, refusing to let anything get in his way as he claimed his first victory in the Championship in a commanding fashion. Crucially, his 29-point haul throws him firmly into the title fight in third.

For our seventh Guest Column of the 2022 season, we handed the reigns over to the Williams Academy junior. He reflected on making history at Carlin’s home weekend, seizing his opportunities and the areas of improvement ahead of his return to Spielberg.

ONE GOOD POINT – POLE TO VICTORY

I think there were many really good points about the weekend, but I think the most important point was that we were able to convert pole position into a win on Sunday, which obviously maximises our points from the weekend and proves we had the pace both in Qualifying and in race pace.

ONE BAD POINT – SPRINT RACE

The only bad point from the weekend was that I wasn’t overly happy with the balance I had in the wet race on Saturday. I didn’t make as much progress in that race as I would have liked to, so some analysis to do there and see what we can do better in the wet.

WHAT I LEARNED – SWITCHING TYRES

I definitely learned a lot from this weekend. I really maximised the new tyre in Qualifying and that’s been a learning process really throughout the whole season. I also learned that I’m capable of being at the front and leading races

FANS MAY HAVE MISSED – CARLIN’S CREW

I think being in the Carlin truck every weekend is pretty funny to be honest. We have such a great group of people and the jokes are really good.

NEXT UP – SPIELBERG

Obviously, I’m super excited to be heading straight back into another round. I feel like the momentum is on my side and it’s another track I know extremely well. I believe we’re going to have a good car as always and I’m just excited for another opportunity to do great.
