The 2025 season represents a chance for PREMA Racing to start afresh after a 2024 campaign that did not bring the results they have so often delivered in Formula 2.

With 194 points scored and a fifth-place finish in the Teams’ Championship it was the first time the Italian squad finished below the 200-point mark since 2019.

But, after a positive end to last season they bring two rookies to the grid, in Gabriele Minì and Sebastián Montoya. But what should we expect from the pair?

Minì and Montoya are known commodities to PREMA, the former most recently driving for them in Formula 3 last season.

He was their lead driver across the campaign, narrowly missing out on the Drivers' Championship to Leonardo Fornaroli.

The Italian driver showed tremendous pace throughout the year, achieving five podiums which included a win from Pole Position in Monte Carlo.

Where Minì impressed last year was in his ability to learn. After a rookie campaign in F3 where he showed tremendous pace but had a fair few incidents, the 19-year-old made it a point in 2024 to be more consistent, which he did, and it almost won him the title.

He now steps up to F2 and will be looking to make a fast start to the season, which will be aided by several factors.

The first being that he has already taken part in a race weekend for PREMA, making his debut at Baku, qualifying eighth before finishing third in the Sprint Race.

On top of that, as previously mentioned Minì is staying in a familiar environment, having won the 2020 Italian F4 Championship with the team. He then finished third at the 2023 Macau Grand Prix with PREMA before last year’s F3 campaign.

It’s a tremendous record together and it is one that both Minì and PREMA will be hoping to continue this year in Formula 2.

Montoya is another familiar face for PREMA given that he previously raced in red for the first three seasons of his single seater career.

He spent his last two seasons in Formula 3, first racing for Hitech Pulse-Eight and last year for Campos Racing, achieving two podium finishes in that time.

But that does not quite tell the full story of the Colombian’s time in third tier, especially in 2024 when he was beset by misfortune in Qualifying and the races.

However, Formula 2 is a chance for him to start fresh and if he shows the pace he showed last year in F3, where he was often cutting his way through the field, then Montoya will be in a good place.

He already started his adaptation process by shadowing the team in Lusail and Abu Dhabi, listening in on the meetings and taking in as much information as possible.

On top of that, he spent plenty of time out on track at the three days of post-season testing at the Yas Marina Circuit, so he would have gone into the winter with a good feeling in the car and understanding of both his strengths and areas for improvement.

He will have another three days of running in pre-season testing in Barcelona before heading to Melbourne, a track where he achieved his first F3 podium in 2023 and scored points in both races last year.

TRIDENT Season Preview: Looking to climb up the Standings

PREMA return in 2025 with an eye on climbing back to the top of the Formula 2 Standings, turning to a couple of familiar faces to do so.

In Montoya and Minì, they have a pair of talented drivers that will be keen to make a name for themselves in F2 and in a team that has had plenty of success in the second tier, they will be confident of doing just that.
