Liam Lawson

Having raced with Hitech in FIA Formula 3 in 2020, Liam Lawson made the step up to FIA Formula 2 with the British outfit for 2021.

The partnership got off to the best possible start as he claimed victory in the race one of the year, winning the first Sakhir Sprint Race.

It proved to be Lawson’s only win of the year after he lost the Monte Carlo Sprint Race 2 win for a technical infringement. A further 12 point-scoring finishes including a P2 result in the first Jeddah Sprint was good enough for P11 in the Drivers’ Championship.

For 2022, Lawson switched to Carlin and once again, he made a stellar start to the campaign, third in the Sakhir Sprint, second in the Feature before winning the Jeddah Sprint Race.

Retirement from the Feature Race was a blow for Lawson having been in contention for a podium. He rebounded later in the season with podium results in Baku, Silverstone and eventually a second win in the Le Castellet Sprint Race.

Consistently in the points from there, Lawson achieved his third win of 2022 in the Spa-Francorchamps Sprint Race and finished third in the Belgian Feature event. He mirrored those result to round out the season at Yas Marina and finish third in the Championship on 149 points.

His work led to reserve driver roles with Red Bull and AlphaTauri and in 2023, he was called upon to deputise for Daniel Ricciardo at the Dutch Grand Prix.
