It is set to be a special return to Silverstone for Arvid Lindblad, as he takes part in a Formula 1 race weekend for the first time. However, the Campos Racing driver is also looking to bounce back after a difficult Round 7 in Spielberg.

The 17-year-old and his Spanish team went point-less for the first time this season at the Red Bull Ring – Lindblad retiring from the Sprint Race, before finishing 12th in the Feature.

But the Campos rookie arrives at Silverstone – where he won both Formula 3 races last year, in good spirits – especially as he is set to drive in Free Practice 1 for Red Bull Ring on Friday.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: Some of the key talking points we are looking forward to at Silverstone

“I am really looking forward to it,” said Lindblad previewing Round 8. “The Red Bull Ring wasn’t good, but we’ve looked into it, we understand what went wrong, and it looked much bigger than it was.

“But that’s fine, you can’t be perfect every weekend. We didn’t do the basics very well and that’s what we are focused on sorting out this week. I am super excited to be racing back at home again.

“Last year was my first time racing in the UK after six years. It went pretty well, with the double win, so I am super excited to be back here in the F2, and obviously it’s going to be even more special having more first FP1 outing with Red Bull.

“Taking over Yuki’s seat is going to be a very special moment, having my first official Formula 1 session, and to do it here at Silverstone, in front of the home crowd, it couldn’t be any more special. It almost doesn’t sound real.

“I really can’t wait for the moment. I’m trying not to get too carried away, because F2 is the priority for the weekend. We have a job to do to bounce back after the Red Bull Ring but looking forward to it.”

Lindblad’s Spielberg result comes a round after his first Formula 2 Pole Position and Feature Race victory. The Campos driver is pleased to have back-to-back race weekends, as it gives him an opportunity to bounce back.

“I really enjoyed the first part of the year, when we had the back-to-backs, the triple-headers, it was tiring, but I enjoyed getting that momentum,” he said.

“I enjoyed getting into the swing of things, so I’m really happy to be racing back home, and getting the opportunity to follow on where we were after Barcelona. We had a really good progression, we had a bit of a hiccup at the Red Bull Ring, but very excited to put that right.”

Lindblad expects the Silverstone circuit to provide a “big challenge” for all the drivers, with the “different corners” as well as the high-speed nature of the track. The Briton also gave his view on what it will take to have success at the Northamptonshire venue this weekend.

“I think you need a lot of commitment,” said Lindblad. “It’s challenging, so you need to be very committed in the high speed. You need to be disciplined in the sense that if you push it the wrong way, it’s very punishing.

“So you need to be disciplined, knowing how to approach the corners, making sure you have your basics done well on that side. You need a lot of commitment, and a lot of send it mentality. Just disconnect the brain and send it.”
