Oliver Goethe is the latest member of the Formula 2 grid to dive into the lessons he’s learned on his journey up the ranks and the move from F3 to F2.
The MP Motorsport driver explained why the little details matter more than ever, why tough moments are just as important as the good ones and how he’s aiming to finish 2025 on a high note.
“Of course you learn a lot over that time, especially in a Championship that’s a very high level like F3 and F2. There aren’t only high moments. They’re both very competitive Championships so there’s also going to be down moments and those are the ones you learn from the most.
“I’d say that step from F3 to F2 is the toughest. It’s a trickier car to drive, it’s heavier and more powerful. It’s got a lot more aspects that you need to take into account like with the brakes, bigger tyres and they come into play a lot. Also pitstops, it’s just about adapting to all of it that’s the tricky part.
“I missed the last race in F3 in order to step up to F2, but even then, I still think it was worth doing because it definitely gave me a bit of a head start in learning stuff.
“On a race weekend, you don’t actually have much track time, but to have been able to do a race before this year was very useful. It made it easier for me to adapt but it’s still been a tough year.

“I’m trying to turn it around as much as possible and have a strong end to the season, which would help me out a lot.
“So the approach will be similar, I have nothing to lose at the end of the day. I will continue to work as hard as I can and do as many things I can to the best of my ability. That’s what I’m aiming to do in these last two rounds.
“There’s a lot of little things that you have to learn, but a general thing I think I’ve learned this year is how the tough moments make you stronger.
“This year, especially the first half of the season, has been really tough. Because it’s F2 - every weekend matters for my career. Those moments – I may have been down, but I feel like they’ve made me stronger and over the last two rounds, I’ve got a bit of confidence back.
“Having a good weekend brings a lot of confidence. In Budapest for example, the pace was good, one of my best overall weekends this season. The pace was probably better than what I showed in Qualifying even.

“So even though I didn’t maximise it, it did give me a big confidence boost to know I was really in the fight for the top spots for the first time this year.
“I’m looking to take that into the final races this year. The team has been really good and motivated me to have stronger weekends, so we’ll see how they go.
“Having done these tracks last year in F2, it definitely helps more than the ones you visit for the first time. These are tracks that you don’t go to often, like Baku, Qatar – a lot of people, it’ll be their first time there.
“I’ll be giving it everything, keep working hard because even in the down moments, there’s always a comeback.”
