It has been a career-defining year for Gabriel Bortoleto, and he added more hardware to his trophy haul in 2024, winning the FIA Rookie of the Year Award.
The Brazilian made it back-to-back Championships in 2023 and 2024 as a rookie following his success in Formula 3 with Trident and with Invicta in F2.
Won previously by the likes of fellow F2 Champions in Charles Leclerc and Oscar Piastri, the Rookie of the Year Award recognises a driver who has completed their first season in an FIA Championship.
Bortoleto became the fourth driver to win the award for their efforts in the Formula 2 Championship, joining Leclerc, Piastri and Yuki Tsunoda as winners after their rookie F2 campaign.
After being presented the award by four-time F1 World Champion Max Verstappen, Bortoleto said that it had been an crazy year in his career.
“The last few months have been quite crazy. I had two intense weeks coming into Abu Dhabi fighting for the Championship with Isack. Well done to him because the season he had was also very good.
“I’m very pleased to be here and accept this trophy. Last year I also had a good rookie season, but Oscar managed to do a good rookie season in F1 and secure this title, so for me it’s very important to get this for the first time and thank you very much for this prize.”
