Christian Lundgaard, Jack Aitken and Guilherme Samaia have all been handed three-place grid drops for Sprint Race 1, following today’s Formula 2 Qualifying session in Baku.

During a slow lap, Lundgaard was found to have impeded Guanyu Zhou between Turns 13 and 14, while the UNI-Virtuosi driver was on a push lap. With the penalty applied, Lundgaard will start from P15 in the first Sprint Race, having qualified 12th.

Aitken was found guilty of the same offence between Turns 7 and 8, impeding Lundgaard while the ART Grand Prix was on a push lap. The HWA RACELAB driver will now start from 17th, having qualified in P14.

Finally, Samaia was determined to have impeded Bent Viscaal at Turn 3, while the Dutchman was on a push lap. The Charouz racer, who qualified 20th, will start from 21st, ahead of Roy Nissany.

Nissany has been permitted to start the race from the back of the grid after all other penalties have been applied. The Israeli was absent from Qualifying following a crash in Free Practice. The short turnaround before the start of the session meant that the team were unable to mend his DAMS in time.

Sato, who finished 19th in Qualifying, will start from 20th in Sprint Race 1, after a grid drop penalty from Free Practice was applied.
