WATCH: Hitech take double victory at their home event on Saturday

Hitech Grand Prix didn’t exactly hit the ground running in either Formula 2 or Formula 3 this season, but the Silverstone-based outfit switched on the style just in time for their home event, taking a double-victory on the Saturday.

Things were never going to be easy in Formula 2, with the side entering the Championship as the 11th side, at the 11th hour. They’d still have been disappointed to take away just one point from the opening two rounds though.

So when Nikita Mazepin crossed the line in first place for his first ever victory, in the Feature Race on Saturday, it will have felt like vindication for Hitech, and confirmation that the side are heading in the right direction. His win made it back-to-back victories for the British side, after Luca Ghiotto’s Sprint Race win in Round 3.

It was a totally different story in F3. Finishing as the 2019 vice-champions, Hitech were expected to close the gap to PREMA this year and challenge them more closely. But in the opening three rounds, the team looked way off the pace in Qualifying, which left them handicapped in Race 1, stating further down the order.

Liam Lawson had taken a Race 2 win in Round 1, but it’s on Saturdays when the most points are available, so the Red Bull junior’s win in Silverstone will have felt pivotal for their Championship challenge.
