Adrian Campos: ‘Tsolov is making the difference and deserves F1 chance’

After sweeping the weekend at Silverstone, Adrian Campos was full of praise for his driver Nikola Tsolov, believing that the Bulgarian’s name should be in the conversation for a promotion to Formula 1.

Tsolov achieved what no other driver has done in FIA Formula 2 history, taking three-consecutive race wins after doubling up at the British circuit, a venue Campos says the team did not expect to be competitive at.

Speaking in the paddock on Sunday, the eponymous Team Principal said he was hugely impressed by both driver and team after recovering from a tough opening session in Practice to become the combination to beat in both races.

“I'm speechless, to be honest, I would never say that this was going to happen here,” Campos admitted. “Because in the past, maybe not with Isaac, but the last few years, we struggled quite a lot here.

“It was probably our weakest race weekend that we were expecting for this year. And it turned into the best in terms of results.

“We thought that we were going to suffer a little bit, and that’s what happened in Free Practice. But the team managed to turn around the situation, and I think today we were the quickest out there.”

Tsolov took over the lead in the Drivers’ Championship with his fifth and sixth race victories of the 2026 campaign. Now on 141 points, he’s 17 clear of nearest challenger Gabriele Minì, who’d entered the weekend with a two-point advantage over Tsolov.

For Campos, the rumours currently circulating that the Red Bull Junior Team driver is in the conversation for an F1 future are warranted, adding that he is the one making the difference this year.

“He's the one making the difference. We are doing what we need to do properly. We are giving him a good car, but he's the one making the difference.

“He does everything so easily, and that is surprising everyone. And to be honest, I really hope that he gets a chance in F1. He really deserves it.”

With a break now between Rounds 7 and 8, the teams will all have a chance to review the data and bring improvements for Spa-Francorchamps in just under a fortnight’s time.

Campos says that the team are aiming to carry their momentum into the Spa weekend, and that if they can’t take another win, they at least want to make the lives of rival teams and drivers very difficult.

“I mean, I think we have been fighting for the win every race weekend. So I expect the same, at least. I know that we cannot win always, obviously, that is very difficult. But we will be strong and we want to be, let's say, at least a pain in the ass for everyone else!”
