Following today’s FIA Formula 2 Championship qualifying session at Baku, Azerbaijan, it was found that car #17 failed to comply with the minimum tyre pressure as specified by the Formula 2 Technical Regulations. As a consequence, Trident’s Santino Ferrucci, who had qualified fifth, has been disqualified from the final qualifying results – although he will be permitted to start tomorrow’s race.
Furthermore, it was reported that BWT Arden have thirteen (13) team personnel associated with the operation of the team’s cars, over the maximum allowable allocation of 12. This was viewed as serious by the Stewards. Hence, the penalty applied was the disqualification of both cars #11 and #12 from the qualifying results. Maximilian Günther and Nirei Fukuzumi are also permitted to start the feature race tomorrow.
Finally, Nicholas Latifi – who had been unable to set a representative qualifying time within the 107% rule – has been granted permission to participate in tomorrow’s race on the grounds that the Canadian had set a satisfactory time within the earlier free practice session.
After these penalties were applied, Günther will start from 17th ahead of teammate Fukuzumi. Ferrucci will occupy 19th position, while Latifi will begin from the last spot on the grid.
