F2 drivers join the ‘Race For The World’ Esports event

Several Formula 2 drivers including ART Grand Prix’s Christian Lundgaard and Giuliano Alesi of BWT HWA RACELAB have helped raise nearly $50,000 for the World Health Organisation’s coronavirus fund in the ‘Race For The World’ Esports event.

The six-race, three-round event has been organised by professional racers to raise a total of $100,000 for the World Health Organisation's COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund.

And the action is non-stop in the short, sharp races that are held on Codemasters’ F1 2019 and last a quarter of the normal distance.

Sean Gelael (DAMS), Louis Delétraz (Charouz Racing System), and UNI-Virtuosi driver Callum Ilott have made up the six-strong group of Formula 2 drivers on the grid of 19 Formula 1 cars.

“The idea came as a way to utilise the current Esports platform to raise money to fight the global pandemic as well as entertain fans across the world,” said Ilott.

“We've set a goal of $100,000 and hope to raise as much money as possible for the WHO’s fund with the help of everyone across the globe.”

Other participants include Formula 1 stars Charles Leclerc, Alex Albon and Lando Norris, recent F2 graduate Nicholas Latifi, Belgian footballer Thibaut Courtois, and Formula E driver Antonio Felix da Costa.
