Although being back with MP Motorsport felt like home for Felipe Drugovich, the Brazilian says that plenty has changed since he left at the end of 2020, praising the “big step forward” that the Dutch outfit have made.

After taking three wins and four podiums in his rookie season with MP, Drugovich opted for a switch to Virtuosi in 2021 but has now returned to the Dutch team 12 months on for his third year at this level.

Despite enjoying his time with Virtuosi, where he took a further four podiums, the 21-year-old explained why he’s opted to put his trust back in MP.

“I am very pleased and very happy to be back, it feels like home,” he said on his return. “It felt like home right from the post-season test last year, so I am very happy and excited. I think that the Championship this year with 14 rounds is very exciting.

“The decision was deciding between MP and my old team, but MP have helped me out quite a lot, and also financially, and I trust them to do the work that they said they want to do.

“Hopefully we are going to get good results. I think we prepared quite well during the winter. I’m happy to be back and want to start on the right foot.”

Spending a year outside of MP has allowed Drugovich to gain different skills in the category, and he now returns as an experienced third year.

At pre-season testing in Bahrain, the 21-year-old finished inside of the top 10 in four out of five sessions and ended the final day of the test on top.

“I feel that I am more experienced and better at making the most out of what I have,” he continued. “I am a more relaxed driver now and I know what I can do. That’s the aim this year, I’ll just try to do what I know I can and if that’s enough, then it’s enough. I am very happy to be where I am.”

As well as making improvements himself, Drugovich feels that the Dutch team have also upped their game and was keen to talk up the “big steps forward” they’ve made.

“MP have improved a lot,” he said. “When I was there in the first year, they were missing a little bit of experience, but I could see in the test at Abu Dhabi that they had made a big step forward.

“We need to see how the season plays out, as we go to many different tracks, but I am sure that we are going to be better than in 2020, and hopefully a lot better.”
