Daniel Ticktum has joined the growing list of F1 academy drivers in FIA Formula 2, linking up with ROKIT Williams Racing, in the role of Development Driver.

Ticktum will join F2 graduates George Russell and Nicholas Latifi at the British team and will hope to learn off the pair, who successfully made the Road to F1.

The British driver was announced at Latifi’s old team DAMS earlier this month and will be joined by experience F2 racer Sean Gelael.

The 20-year-old is a two-time winner of the prestigious FIA F3 World Cup in Macau, taking victory in 2017 and 2018 and has previously tested F1 machinery, with Aston Martin Red Bull Racing.

Ticktum spent the 2019 campaign racing in Japanese Super Formula, but has previous experience in F2, driving for BWT Arden in the 2018 season finale in Abu Dhabi.

As Development Driver, Ticktum will gain the vast experience of the Williams' team, who will offer advice and coaching during his first full F2 season. He will also partake in a busy simulator programme and enjoy time at their garage in England.

Discussing the announcement, Ticktum said; “It is a privilege to be joining the Williams Racing Driver Academy, especially given Williams’ incredible heritage in our sport. The time in the simulator and experience working with the team will prove invaluable for my development. Being fully integrated into the operations will be a fantastic opportunity and I look forward to assisting wherever I can.”

Claire Williams, Deputy Team Principal, added; “I am delighted that Dan, another exciting young British talent, has joined the Williams Racing Driver Academy. His ability behind the wheel has been demonstrated with back-to-back successes at the prestigious Macau Grand Prix in 2017 and 2018. Dan’s technical expertise will prove invaluable to the team and we are looking forward to helping him grow and develop in 2020.”
