Amongst the many awards that will be handed out at the 2022 Formula 2 and Formula 3 Prize Giving Ceremony, there is one that stands out amongst the rest – the Anthoine Hubert Award.

Created following the tragic events at Spa-Francorchamps in 2019, this award is dedicated to the memory of one of the Championship’s brightest stars who retains a special place in hearts of everyone in the Formula 2 family, Anthoine Hubert.

WHAT IS THE AWARD?

Created in Anthoine’s honour and in celebration of his achievements, the award’s beautifully simple but eye-catching design showcases the star that was a central part of his helmet design in three colours of the French flag, alongside his signature.

During his campaign, the Frenchman became the only rookie to achieve two victories that season – one in a memorable fashion on the streets of Monte Carlo, the other in front of a jubilant home crowd at Le Castellet.

With this award, Anthoine’s legacy continues to live on, inspiring each new generation of talent and in remembrance of the spirit, drive and determination he showed throughout his life.

“We wanted to honour him and ensure that he is remembered fondly in every season to come. As such, we have decided to give this award named after Anthoine to the best rookie of the season, a title which I am convinced he could have fought,” said FIA Formula 2 CEO Bruno Michel.

In 2019, Zhou Guanyu became the inaugural recipient of the award, having fought with Anthoine for the top rookie honours during their time on track together. The Chinese driver claimed five podiums and one pole position to finish seventh in the Championship and was presented with the award by Anthoine’s brother, Victhor.

Following in Guanyu’s footsteps, Yuki Tsunoda took the honours in 2020 off the back of his third-place finish, with three wins, seven podiums and four pole positions, before graduating to Formula 1 with AlphaTauri.

2021 Champion Oscar Piastri’s spectacular rookie season was recognised with the award last year, having achieved six wins, 11 podiums and five pole positions on his way to the title.
