It has been a promising year so far for Trident and for Roman Stanek, a triumphant one as he claimed a maiden Formula 2 victory in the Melbourne Sprint Race.

Ahead of Round 4 and a return to racing, we put some tough questions to the Czech driver, from driving and overtaking moves to favourite meals, cycling and dancing prowess.”

WEIGHTS OR CARDIO?

“Cardio. I love cycling and I love going out and getting that cardio in.”

HOME OR MONACO GP WIN?

“Win in Monaco. Monaco is a special place, one of the toughest tracks in the world and a big party happens on Sunday! Hopefully we can aim to win there this year.”

UNDERSTEER OR OVERSTEER?

“I prefer…well it depends on a race car or road car. In Formula 2, I prefer more understeer because if the rear is sitting down ok, you have good traction but of course, you have to deal with the understeer. But, if you have a good rear and a little bit of understeer, it’s still good. Oversteer looks good when you see it on TV, but I think understeer is faster than oversteer. It can’t be like you can’t turn the car, but a little bit isn’t bad.”

GIVE UP YOUR FAVOURITE MEAL FOR LIFE OR EAT IT EVERY DAY FOR A YEAR?

“No, I’d give it up for life. It’s hard but I think if I had to choose one meal, because I live in Italy it’s pasta. Pasta al Pesto or Pasta al Ragu. My girlfriend is Italian, so she knows how to cook it very well. I would give it up though. After one week it would be disgusting, I’m sure.”

HANDS FOR FEET OR FEET FOR HANDS?

“I would rather have my feet where they are!”

FIRST TO ARRIVE OR LAST TO ARRIVE?

“It depends. If I have to be somewhere on time, I prefer to arrive first.”

TOO HOT OR TOO COLD?

“Probably too hot. If it’s hot outside, you can take off clothes but if you’re cold, it’s tough. Even though I’m from Czech Republic, I like a proper winter, but there’s a limit.”

DRIVE WITH A RACE SUIT THAT’S TOO BIG OR TOO SMALL?

“Too big, yeah.”

ROCK OR HIP HOP?

“Depends on the mood but hip hop.”

KARAOKE OR DANCE OFF?

“Umm, dance off. I’m a good dancer but I don’t dance often so don’t show off my skills!”

INDY 500 OR 24 HOURS OF LE MANS?

“24 Hours of Le Mans. It’s a big race in Europe, a historic race. I’m not saying the Indy 500 isn’t, but I think for a European driver, it’s worth more than the Indy 500.”

ABILITY TO TELEPORT OR READ PEOPLE’S MINDS?

“To teleport. I would just teleport back in time. I miss my teenage years! So, I’d go back in time.”

OPTION PRIME OR PRIME OPTION?

“Depends on the track but I think prime option because you’re the hero at the end of the race with the options on.”

SHOEY OUT OF YOUR TEAMMATE’S SHOE OR YOUR BOSS’ SHOE?

“If it would be on the podium, I’m fine with both!”

DIVE UP THE INSIDE OR SWEEP AROUND THE OUTSIDE?

“Inside. You brake late, dive to the inside whereas on the outside, the guy on the inside can always make it difficult. It’s hard either way but I remember from my karting days, you dive to the inside and get tough defensively.”

WIN FROM POLE OR WIN FROM LAST?

“Win from last. You can be the hero at the end. On the option tyres!"
