The Campos Racing rookie has enjoyed a solid campaign so far in 2023, but Kush Maini faces a tough test in the latest instalment of Would you Rather.

The Indian driver gives us insight into how to setup the car to go fast, his ideal overtake and what he’d be singing in celebration once that first win arrives.

WEIGHTS OR CARDIO?

“Weights. Cardio – I have to do it for racing but with weights, you can change your training up, change to supersets, you can just do a lot with it. With cardio, once you decide what you want to do, it’s a long time doing the same thing, so weights are a bit less boring.”

HOME OR MONACO WIN?

“Home race win. For me, Monaco is special, and I’d like to win any race to be honest, but a home GP is something you dream about and so special, especially coming from a country like India where the popularity of racing is building up. It’s not anything compared to what it is in Europe but just to be an Indian driver and stand on the top step of the podium in a top tier Championship would be something amazing.”

UNDERSTEER OR OVERSTEER?

“It really depends on Qualifying or race. For fun, I’d go with oversteer. Qualifying you need a bit of oversteer. You can play around with it a bit more but when you’ve got understeer, you can push the grip but that’s it. With oversteer you can try and tweak it until it’s right. Pitch the car left on the brakes, overlap the throttle to keep the weight on the rears, so you can do more things to control the oversteer but with understeer, there’s less you can do.”

GIVE UP YOUR FAVOURITE MEAL FOR A YEAR OR EAT IT EVERY SINGLE DAY FOR A YEAR?

“Hmm that’s a tough one. I’d probably give it up for the year to be honest. My favourite meal would have to be, seeing as I’m not at home often, an Indian home-cooked meal. But it’s close between that and Japanese food. I love Japanese food.”

HANDS FOR FEET OR FEET FOR HANDS?

“Hands for feet so you can cover everything.”

FIRST TO ARRIVE OR LAST TO ARRIVE?

“I feel like the professional answer is first to arrive, so I’ll go with that. But it’s debatable. Depends what for.”

TOO HOT OR TOO COLD?

“Too cold. You can just put on more layers but when you’re hot, you’re kind of stuck.”

RACE SUIT THAT’S TOO BIG OR TOO SMALL?

“That’s really tough. Probably too big. You’d look worse but I’d feel better in the car, and I’ve got to prioritise how I’d feel in the car. Maybe I’ll change into a small one before the podium.”

ROCK OR HIP HOP?

“Rock. I used to be hip hop but now it’s rock. Depends on the day but it’s usually on the pre-race playlist.”

KARAOKE OR DANCE OFF?

“Karaoke for sure. Probably some Elvis. I think I could pull that off.”

INDY 500 VICTORY OR 24 HOURS OF LE MANS?

“Indy 500. I’ve spent my whole life in single seaters so there’s something that draws me to that more than Le Mans. I’d go for oat milk if I won.”

TELEPORTATION OR ABILITY TO READ PEOPLE’S MINDS?

“Teleportation probably because traveling would be so easy. With an Indian passport you get stuck in every queue possible.”

OPTION-PRIME OR PRIME-OPTION?

“Prime-option. You always look super cool when you’re cutting through the field at the end.”

SHOEY OUT OF YOUR TEAMMATE’S SHOE OR YOUR BOSSES SHOE?

“I’ll go with teammate just so he doesn’t feel bad.”

LATE-BRAKING MOVE ON THE INSIDE OR ALL THE WAY AROUND THE OUTSIDE?

“Inside all day long. For sure. I’ll go with that. You try to judge the car in front for a few laps. If you see them looking in the mirrors, you’re confident that if you send one down the inside they’re not going to want to crash, and it feels super good. It’s probably the safer option too so you aren’t squeezed onto the grass on the outside, so I’d go with that option down the inside.”

WIN FROM POLE OR WIN FROM LAST?

“Pole. I feel like in F2 it’s so competitive and when you win from last, it’s usually more to do with strategy, but winning from pole is a statement and that’s always my goal.”
